When it comes to choosing a camper van it’s quite a minefield 🤯. There is SO much to consider.
- What size?
- How will it be used (only on campsites or off grid)?
- What layout?
- Shower or no shower?
- Toilet or compost toilet?
- How much to spend?
- What about solar panels?
To help, I went to the caravan & camping show at the NEC. There were hundreds and hundreds of campervans to look at, it was quite overwhelming!
I decided that I preferred to have a permanent bed, as I didn’t want to have to keep packing it away every day. Not only because it’s a hassle but because storage space is limited and the bedding needed somewhere to go.
I wanted it to be a campervan rather than a motorhome, as they are too big. A toilet was a nice to have but not essential. And I quite liked the idea of solar panels in case I don’t have a campsite with electric hookup. I wanted a reasonable amount of living space, even with a permanent bed fixture.
Every van I looked at had positives and negatives. Eventually I came across the Vanlife Conversions trade stand. They had their Kuno layout on display. The model there with all its customisations was well over the budget I had in mind. However, the layout was the best I’d seen that day.
I came home and did some more internet research. The more I thought about it, the more I kept coming back to this particular van.
I bit the bullet and made the decision to go with that one! The base van (Fiat Ducato) is purchased in grey, and we have a scheduled built slot for late June, with completion hopefully in August!
